General Training
Our General Training sessions are the core of the club - open to members who have completed Foundations and are ready to train in full gear. Sessions are led by a coach, with format and focus varying week to week.
What to expect:
Group warm-up and targeted drills to sharpen fundamentals
A focused lesson on a specific skill, concept, or weapon emphasis
Transition into fully geared sparring with coaching and feedback
Open “freeplay” at the end for self-directed sparring and experimentation
What to bring:
Full sparring gear (mask, jacket, gloves, gorget, etc.)
A longsword or other weapon appropriate to the night’s focus
Water and athletic clothes
This is where skills are tested, refined, and pressure-tested in sparring. Come prepared to sweat, learn, and fence!
This day is marked as closed. Reopen the day to edit or restore sessions.

Foundations Class (Intro to Historical Fencing)
Our Foundations class is the starting point for anyone new to HEMA. Most sessions focus on the longsword, though we occasionally explore saber and other historical weapons.
What to expect:
Learn the basics of the sword: key terms, how to hold it, and how to move with it.
Practice fundamental positions and movements (cuts, guards, and parries) with steel training swords under close instruction.
Progress into slow, structured partner drills using provided fencing helmets (and protective gloves, time permitting).
Wrap up with foam swords to safely practice newly learned techniques at speed.
As you build confidence, you’ll eventually move on to sparring with steel - typically this takes several sessions to develop the necessary control and safety skills.
What to bring:
Comfortable athletic clothes and water.
Optional: a head covering (bandana, gaiter) to wear under loaner helmets for comfort.
We provide fencing masks, gloves, and protective gear.
This class is designed for absolute beginners - no prior experience required. Just bring a sense of curiosity and be ready to move!
